  • Auto AC Service

If your vehicle’s air conditioning system isn’t doing its job, we can help. Whether you have an older or newer model vehicle, our full-service air conditioning repair facility can help keep you cool—even in the hottest summer months. Here are some signs that your vehicle may need an auto AC service: Your vehicle blows hot air from the vents, though you have the dial on cold The air doesn’t feel as cold as it used to Randomly blows colder than you indicated It makes loud noises or produces a scent At George’s Sierra Shell, our ASE certified master technicians will perform a professional inspection of the system and provide a complete analysis and auto ac service based off the current conditions, whether it’s a simple A/C recharge or a new air conditioning compressor. Our standard auto AC service and performance check includes: Visually inspect A/C components Run performance test including system state of charge test and system control test Perform leak test using approved electronic leak detector If a slow leak cannot be detected, a dye detection service may need to be performed. If your A/C runs on R-12 Freon, we can convert your old system to a new environmentally friendly system using EPA-approved refrigerant (134a). Many older vehicles (prior to 1993) use a refrigerant called R12 or Freon in the A/C system, but due to stricter environmental laws, this product is no longer manufactured, and supplies are scarce and expensive. Conversion to 134a is different for each vehicle. At George’s Sierra Shell, we will provide an estimate for repair of the old system and an estimate to retrofit to 134a. Make an appointment online or call George’s Shell to get your Auto AC Service System checked today.

  • Brake Repair

Our technicians pay special attention to the quality and effectiveness of your brakes, and with good reason. The difference of just a couple inches could save your life. Fortunately, your brakes are pretty good at telling you when they need service. Are your brakes in good shape? Check our brake repair list: Does your steering wheel shake when you apply your brakes? (Your rotors and/or drums might need machining) Is your brake pedal lower than usual? Is the brake pedal spongy when you push on it? (Might be your hydraulic system.) Is your brake pedal hard to push? (Might be worn out shoes or pads.) Does your red brake warning light on the dashboard stay on? (Might be an imbalance in your hydraulic system.) Do your breaks make a squealing or grinding sound? (Might be a glazed rotor or the calipers may need replacing.) Has it been more than a year since you had your breaks checked? If you answered yes to any of these questions, it’s time to schedule an appointment for a break inspection. We at George’s Shell are armed with the latest diagnostic equipment, expert know-how and superior braking parts and components made from premium materials for your vehicle. When replacing brakes, the quality of the parts installed is incredibly important. That is why we install the highest quality aftermarket pads available. Premium replacement parts are designed to meet—and often exceed—the performance of the equipment that originally came with your car. Adaptive One Brake Pads (Featuring Advanced Braking Technology) makes the brakes fit better, stop faster and last longer than any other replacement pads. And, they’re quieter, too. Thanks to our rigorous quality standards and unmatched installation skills, your brakes will perform as well as the originals—or better! Make an appointment online or call George’s Shell to get your brake repair and service checked today.

  • Fluids & Filters Service

The oil in your car lubricates the engine and keeps all the parts running smoothly. Over time, the oil gets dirty, thick and sometimes even sludgy. You know you need an oil change when: You’ve driven more than 3,000 miles since your last oil change (check your vehicle manual for ideal miles driven between changes). It’s been over 3 months since you’ve had your oil changed. Your oil level is low. Your oil, when you check the level, is dark black-brown on the stick. George’s Sierra Shell will choose the type of oil that’s best for your vehicle; usually as recommended by the manufacturer. With each oil change, George’s Sierra Shell will also: Change the oil filter. Changing the filter keeps your oil cleaner longer. Inspect your air filter and recommend replacement only if needed. Check your vital fluid levels, such as battery water, automatic transmission fluid, coolant/antifreeze, and brake fluid. Perform a complete courtesy check on the vehicle, checking for any possible issues and preventing any problems before they occur. Make an appointment online or call George’s Shell to receive our change oil filter service by our expert Fontana mechanics today.

  • Heating & Cooling Service

Cooling system failure is the #1 cause of engine breakdowns on the highway. A little maintenance can go a long way to preventing a potentially expensive engine problem and a lot of inconvenience for you and your family. Keep an eye out for the following signs and symptoms of cooling system failure; your car or truck may be telling you it needs a little cooling system care: Dashboard temperature gauge shows the car is in the red or running hot. Any colored fluid is leaking from the engine. Steam is coming from the engine. Car engine smells “hot”. Engine belts and hoses are more than 5 years old or are showing signs of wear. Auto manual recommends maintenance, such as replacement of anti-freeze. At George’s Shell, our ASE-certified master technicians will perform a professional inspection of the system and provide you with a complete analysis of the current conditions and the estimated cost of repair. So what could cause your vehicle to overheat? It could be any one of many cooling system components. Here’s what we’ll check: Radiator Radiator cap Radiator hoses Radiator fan/fan clutch Anti-freeze and coolant (different vehicles take different types) Water pump hermostat Fan belts Serpentine belt Cooling sensor Heater core Heater hoses Unlike many service shops that just perform a “drain-and-fill” of anti-freeze, George’s Shell provides a complete radiator flushing service that includes the following: Inspect system and pressure test for leaks Add flush chemicals to the radiator Power flush system through flush machine Add sealant/lubricant to the system Make an appointment online or call George’s Shell to get your Heating & Cooling System checked today.

  • Lighting & Wipers

The technology behind vehicle headlights, turn signals, and taillights has improved dramatically over the last couple decades. The quality and effectiveness of windshield wipers to keep your driving view all clear improves with new technology every year. Unfortunately, many accidents happen because someone just didn’t see the vehicle in time. To be as safe as possible, keep your exterior lights and your windshield wipers fully functional. Here’s how: Keep your headlights and taillights clean. Dust, mud, or other debris can reduce illumination. Check your headlights and taillights regularly for dim, flickering or burned out bulbs. Swing by George’s Sierra Shell to have them replaced immediately. Once a year, request to have your headlights’ alignment checked to ensure they’re aimed in the right direction. Replace your windshield wipers once per year (before the rainy season is always a good idea!) and/or as soon as they no longer clear the windshield effectively. Streaking, blurring, skipping, or tearing rubber are definite signs you need new wipers. If you have any questions or concerns about your vehicle’s lights or need replacement windshield wipers, give George’s Sierra Shell a call. It’s likely we have the part you need in stock and we can have you in and out quickly. Make an appointment online or call George’s Shell to get your Lighting and Wipers checked today.

  • Tire Service

Did you know that we stock tires at George’s Shell? We carry a number of tires in stock to get you back on the road fast! We carry most major brands, including: Goodyear Bridgestone General Yokohama Michelin BF Goodrich Cooper Kumho Continental Pirelli Toyo Falken Also, when you purchase your tires from us, you receive free lifetime tire rotations! If you do not see a brand above, and would like us to order it, call us. Maintaining Your Tires Your tires are the only part of your vehicle that actually touches the road when you drive. It only takes a couple of minutes of maintenance each month to keep your tires working at their best. Check Your Air Pressure Once a Month Incorrect air pressure is the leading cause of tire damage. To avoid tire damage you need to check your tire’s air pressure once a month. The air pressure listed on the side of your tire is NOT the correct air pressure for your vehicle. That number is the maximum air pressure for the tire. Consult your manual for proper tire pressure. Rotate Your Tires The best way to prevent uneven wear is to have your tires rotated every 5,000 – 6,000 miles or as specified in your vehicle’s owner manual. Check Your Tread Depth To prevent hydroplaning and skidding, your tires must have proper tread depth. The minimum tread depth is 1/16 of an inch. Be sure to check your tire tread for uneven wear. Irregular wear shortens the life of your tires, if you think you have uneven wear give us a call. Potential Tire Troubles Curbs can prove to be big trouble to your tires. Approach curbs with care, if you drive over them too fast or at the wrong angle the impact may cause the tire to crack. Avoid potholes or debris in the road when possible. Avoid fast stops & starts. Make an appointment online or call George’s Shell to get your Tire Services today.

  • Transmission Repair

Using the latest in state-of-the-art technology, we will install a safe and effective cleaner to suspend harmful varnish and sludge from the transmission valve body, torque converter and lines. Install new high-tech fluid with conditioners. Checking Transmission Fluid Check the level of your automatic transmission fluid. Pull out the transmission fluid dipstick located at the back of the engine near the firewall. Wipe it off, replace it and pull it out again. Check the level against the markings at the bottom of the dipstick. A low level should be addressed immediately with a trip to a transmission specialist. Check the color of the fluid; it should be clear pink. Any darkness warrants a fluid and filter change. Manual transmission should be checked for oil level by NAPA AutoCare Center when the engine oil is changed. Some vehicles no longer have a transmission dipstick they need to be checked by an automotive professional (see owner’s manual). Caution: Always install the correct transmission fluid. Using the wrong fluid can severely damage the unit.
